Development prospects of the health food industry

7 Mar 2024

1. Stricter regulation safeguards the sound development of the industry

In December 2023, the State Administration for Market Regulation released Guidelines for Standardizing Labeling of Health Food to help health food producers and distributors to further standardize labeling of health food, guide consumption, and safeguard the market order. The gradual improvement of laws and regulations and the tightening of regulation of the entire industry will be conductive to solving the chaotic situation within the industry, contributing to the centralized, healthy and long-term development of the industry.

2. Raising of people’s health awareness lays a foundation for the development of the industry

With the improvement of people’s income level and quality of life, they pursue a more healthy life, which lays a solid foundation for the development of the entire industry. What’s more, after the three-year Covid-2019, people’s health awareness is changing, and the health industry begin to recover. Health food, as an important part of the industry, enjoys a good market prospect.

3. Population aging and consumption upgrading make room for the development of the industry

See from population structure, China has a huge aging population. By the end of 2023, the population aged 60 and above in China exceeded 290 million, making China a moderately aging society. The deepening of population aging brings large market space for the development of the health food industry. On the other hand, as consumption upgrades, being professional, healthy, nutritious, personalized, and convenient has become new public concern. Health food producers have shifted their focus to adding more functions to their products and specializing in a certain field, thus pointing to a promising future for the industry.
